Teens from across the state came to Raleigh May 7-11, 2012, to participate in Boys & Girls Clubs Week of the Governor’s Page Program. This was the first time this event was held.
During the week, the Pages were assigned to cabinet level agencies or Council of State offices to learn from and assist state employees. Some assignments included: Department of Agriculture, Lieutenant Governor’s Office, and Department of Environment & Natural Resources. In addition to spending time at their assigned Department, Pages also toured the State Capitol, Legislative Building, Executive Mansion, Supreme Court, and NC Correctional Institute for Women. The teens also spent part of a day volunteering at the InterFaith Food Shuttle, and met Governor Beverly Perdue.
In addition to their daytime duties, the high school students met at a Boys & Girls Club one evening during the week to attend a YouthMAX leadership event, and to have time to socialize in a familiar setting.
Teens chosen as Pages for the week came from Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, Boys & Girls Clubs of Eastern NC, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater High Point, Boys & Girls Clubs serving Wake County, and The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Gaston County.
